Individuation Play List
I have begun collecting songs to include in what I have titled an Individuation Play List. These songs contain lyrics that encourage me on my individuation journey — my growth in consciousness, meaning, my spiritual path of love of self.
Songs touch us because they are just the nourishing stories our souls need at a particular place and time. While a friend or therapist may recommend a certain book, today I offer a song. It is from the current sound track of A Star is Born. I find it explains my journey and the awareness that brings others into Jungian work. We all found ourselves at a crossroads wishing to leave behind old ways and answer a call to go deeper into discovering who we really are, what we are called to do. There was a “void” in our lives, and we attempted to ignore it or fill it with things that were not nourishing. The movie portrays two characters in their struggles to live authentic, creative lives. One succeeds, one fails. I have watched all four versions of this story and cried at every ending. It is difficult to confront wounds, but trust me when I say that the healing of those wounds releases your greatest gifts. Ask for help. Be open to your beautiful, creative self. Nourish your mind, body and soul as the precious gifts they are. Connect to the divine energy that lives in you.
So I offer you “Shallow” from A Star is Born. Be the hero in your own journey, don’t give up, forgive and learn to fill the void with love for your very human self.

Shallow
Tell me somethin’, girl
Are you happy in this modern world?
Or do you need more?
Is there somethin’ else you’re searchin’ for?
I’m fallin’
In all the good times
I find myself longing for change
And in the bad times, I fear myself
Tell me something, boy
Aren’t you tired tryin’ to fill that void?
Or do you need more?
Ain’t it hard keepin’ it so hardcore?
I’m falling
In all the good times
I find myself longing for change
And, in the bad times, I fear myself
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now
In the sha-ha, sha-la-low
In the sha-sha-la-la-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-ha-ha-low
We’re far from the shallow now
Hoo, huh, uh, huhh-ow
Huh, huhh-huhhh
I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I’ll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface
Where they can’t hurt us
We’re far from the shallow now
In the sha-ha, sha-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-la-la-la-low
In the sha-ha, sha-ha-ha-low
We’re far from the shallow now
